Drayton Park Golf Club

Course Information

Whether you are relatively new to golf or a low handicapper, Drayton Park is a course for all abilities. With narrow tree lined fairways and picturesque views it rewards the golfer who can keep the ball on the fairway.

Situated in mature flat parkland formerly part of the Drayton Manor estate, the seat of the Peel family - of which Sir Robert Peel, the founder of the police force, was the most famous – the course was designed and set out by James Braid, five times winner of the British Open Golf Championship.

A member of the "Famous Triumvirate" of Braid, Taylor and Vardon who between them had won several British Opens, Braid also had a hand in the design of Gleneagles, Carnoustie and Royal Troon, amongst many others

Whilst retaining the character of the original James Braid design the greens were re-laid to USGA standards in 2001 and are slick and true. With continued improvements to the course including drainage it is playable all year round with barely any winter tees or temporary greens.

Drayton Park GC has many features typical of a James Braid course:

  • It is not overlong - 6442 yards off the white tees
  • It has two testing par 5's
  • Three par 3's - difficult to hit and always a challenge
  • Narrow tree-lined fairways with strategically placed bunkers and well protected greens

No matter what golf course you play, if it is a James Braid course, it will be recognisable from these characteristics.

Drayton Park Golf Club is proud that it has undertaken major changes to the structure of the course to keep up with fairway and green technology and the club's policy of continuous improvement maintains the integrity of the course as Braid would have wished it.

Why not play the course for yourself; we are sure you will not be disappointed!
