Senior Captain's Message

I am honored to be representing Drayton Park Golf Club as captain of the Seniors Section for 2024. I will be doing my best to maintain the high standards set by previous captains and by working with the Seniors Committee to make 2024 another enjoyable year for the Section. I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate past captain John Lander for his very successful 2023 season.

I’ve been a full 7-day member of the club for 22 years and a member of the senior’s section for 7 of those years. By playing in club and Senior’s competitions also A/B team and Seniors matches, I have come to know many club members, and I hope to get to know many more during my time as Seniors Captain. I’m very approachable and will always strive to help and encourage any new members.

During my time as Vice-Captain, I have worked with the committee and competitions secretary to introduce 2 new competitions, The Seniors Pairs KO and Seniors Order of Merit, both have been successful and are now adopted as regular events. I’m a great believer in improvement through steady change, there is no standing still.

So, I’m available to listen to, and take forward for consideration, any suggestions to improve our section to make golf as enjoyable as it can be for all.

We all now enjoy the benefits of a brilliant club and envious golf course through the hard work of our course manager Dale and his team backed up by the club Board of Directors. Let’s double our efforts to support and look after it by following all the guidance on the regular club bulletins to help keep it in top shape.

We have some fantastic seniors matches to play, with a new addition to the fixtures this year at Lichfield GC. These matches generate a great team spirit and provide an opportunity for a brilliant golfing day out, please get involved, you will be welcomed! Also join me for my Captains Away Day which this year is in Solihull at The Robin Hood GC on Thursday 20th June.

As golfers, we all gain many physical and mental health benefits from playing golf, living longer lives on average than non-golfers. Remember, even on the days when it feels like you’ve never played the game before, (and we’ve all been there!), we still reap the benefits! So, keep the ball on the short stuff, and enjoy your golf!

Best Wishes & Happy New Year!
